He is a journalist. He is Australian. He works for himself. The name of his business is Hendricks Media Corp. he is successful at his job. He is well known and has connections. He can be over dramatic.
2. List 5 important aspects of the relationship between your character and the character they are speaking to?
The journalist is there to interview Lloyd. The journalist does not really pity Lloyd. Lloyd tries to come off as a bad person and the things he says sometimes shocks the journalist. The journalist basically just wants to use Lloyd. The journalist is trying to make Lloyd look like a good guy.
3. How do they know each other, what is their relationship, is status important, etc? Do not repeat given circumstances from above. (7 sentences)
Lloyd does not know the journalist, this is the first time Lloyd meets him. The journalist knows of Lloyd because what he does is international news. They have a strictly professional relationship. The journalist just uses him. However, Lloyd does not seem to care what kind of relationship they have as he always just acts inappropriately. The journalist's status is important to him but Lloyd does not really seem to care about that. Lloyd in general seems like he would have a high status as he is famous for what he is doing.
4. What do they want from the character they are speaking to. Be specific. (3 sentences)
He wants to write about Lloyd. He wants to exploit Lloyd. He wants Lloyd to agree to bring in a TV crew.
5. Why do they want it? Cite examples from the play. (7 sentences)
He wants to write about Lloyd to gain international recognition. He explains to Lloyd, "The publicity would make your future. You'd have book deals. There'd be a bidding war for the movie rights. More fame than you could imagine" (53). By making Lloyd famous, he would be giving himself recognition as well. He wants to exploit Lloyd to also make money. When the journalist mentions what Lloyd would gain Lloyd said "I want and amount in dollars. Three percent? Four?" to which the journalist responds "You're out of your fucking mind." He wants most of the money to himself. He wants to bring in a TV crew because that would be the best way to publicize Lloyd. He explains "People are looking to you, mate. I bring a camera crew in here and you could make a huge difference."
6. What will happen to your character if they do not get what they want from the character they are speaking to? ( 5 sentences)
He would not really lose anything if he does not get what he wants. He simply would not gain anything. His business would not fail but would not become anymore successful either. He would not lose money, but would not gain any either. He would not become more well known as a journalist.

Persuade, entice, flatter, deceive, swindle.
8. Why do they use those tactics as opposed to others? example why do they threaten instead of plead? (5 sentences)
This is the best way to get what he wants. He wants to convince Lloyd to publicize what he is doing but more to benefit himself than Lloyd. He wants all of the benefits. Therefore, he needs to persuade Lloyd to agree to have a camera crew come in. But he is really only deceiving him to get what he wants.
9. How do you think your character sees themselves? What do they think of themselves? (10 sentences)
What are they afraid of? (3 sentences)
The journalist definitely seems himself as a successful, cunning man. He built his own business. He believes he cant convince Lloyd to do what he wants and receive all of the benefits from it. Just knowing this alone, it is obvious he has a big ego. He only cares about what he gets out of things and not the bigger picture of what his work could actually bring to the world. He also has no guilt about what he does. He is very stingy in giving Lloyd benefits. He does not care that Lloyd will get screwed over as long as he profits in some way. He believes he has very high status in more environments. Basically, he sees himself as superior to others and doesn't care how other people are affected by what he does. He is afraid of being a "nobody". He is afraid he is not special. He is afraid his life has no meaning and therefore wants to fill it with materialist things.
10. How do they protect themselves? (3 sentences)
He provides little information about himself. He was even hesitant to give Lloyd his full name. He focuses on everyone else's lives so that no one can focus on his.
11. What makes them happy? (3 sentences)
He is very materialistic. Therefore things that make him happy are the things mentioned above. He craves money, fame, power, etc.
12. In what ways are you similar to your character and in what ways are you different. (10 sentences)
I do not only value the materialistic. I look to find more value in life than that. He does seem to care about the deep relationships he could form with other people while I do. Even though he does not really care he does add some sort of value to the world through his work. That is something I wish to do in the future. I want to add to this world, improve it, or help it in anyway I can. Also, he is still very much a "people" person. I was not for the longest time as I was dealing with social anxiety. However, I am more of a "people" person now as it is something that I have overcome. In general, there is only little commonality between me and the journalist as I do not see him as a good person.
13. Attach a photo of your what your character might look like to you. I do not care about age, race, gender, for the image. Maybe it is what they are wearing? Maybe it is how they are standing? Maybe it is an actor you could imagine playing the role in a movie?
