Monologue Script:
Hey Jordan, You got a moment to speak? I really need some advice? I just don’t know what to do about this job anymore. (Pause for answer) I am almost through all of my savings, my landlord is threatening to evict me from my apartment, and the dealership is threatening to repossess my car. This job just isn’t enough anymore. I know I said photography was my passion and that this job would be perfect for me, but besides the free travel and stay I’m not making enough money to support myself. Maybe my family was right. What do you think I should do? (Pause for answer) I know if I quit without a plan b my whole family will throw it in my face. All I will hear is “I told you so, I told you so” Ugh!!! I need to find something else. But, I need something I like. You know me I can’t sit behind a desk all day at some stupid boring job. Anyways, sorry for talking about myself so much. How’s your new business? (Pause for answer) That’s Amazing!! I am so glad you’re doing something you love. An advertising firm is always in need of a photographer or photo editor, right? (Pause for answer) So is that a yes or no? (Pause for answer) “Yes?” Huh that’s interesting. Have you hired anyone for the position? (Pause for answer) “No?” huh who are your options? I may be able to help you thin out the weak ones. (Pause for answer) What? Me? You think I would be good for the job? I would’ve never thought of that. (Pause for answer) Of course I’ll take it!! You’re the best.

Reflection Questions:
1. This semester, you worked on two scenes and created a monologue. What surprised you? This could be something you thought would be challenging but found yourself comfortable doing OR it can be something you found challenging but made it through.
I was surprised to see how much actually goes into acting. In order to properly convey a character there is a lot more that needs to be done than simply reading lines off of a paper. This class broadened my views on the steps it takes to perfect a character by understanding how they would react in a situation through understanding their given circumstances. Although, I sometimes struggled in capturing the true emotion of characters through my acting this course helped me appreciate the efforts of the acting community so much more.
2. What advice would you give to a student who is just starting their work on an acting scene?
The best advice I could give to a student beginning their acting scenes would be to thouroughly analyze the given circumstances of the character they are playing. Make sure that you know the background of your character so that you could properly react as they would when you portray them.
3. Did you complete your Student Evaluation sent via email from Banner? Please do so.
Yes, I have completed the survey.
