1. This semester, you worked on two scenes and created a monologue. What surprised you? This could be something you thought would be challenging but found yourself comfortable doing OR it can be something you found challenging but made it through.
Since I had no acting experience or background knowledge on acting, I was worried I would struggle with being able to portray different emotions in the scenes. Although there is a lot of room for improvement, I feel like I definitely saw progress later on in the semester as I became more comfortable.
2. What advice would you give to a student who is just starting their work on an acting scene?
The advice I would give to a student just starting their work on an acting scene would be to really listen to any advice being given about your scenes. Even if it is just a small change being made, it can improve your work immensely. You can also apply those notes to future scenes. It’s also important to truly understand given circumstances, and know what your character wants. These two things are major parts that go into giving the scenes meaning.
3. Did you complete your Student Evaluation sent via email from Banner? Please do so.
Yes I did.
Monologue: Ava! Hey. I’ve been trying to reach you all day, but I just kept getting your voicemail. I’m glad you’re here though because I rather talk to you in person about this. (pause for response) I think I’ve been pretty laid back about the amount of days you’ve been missing at work. I know you have a busy schedule outside of the boutique, but that doesn’t mean you can just put off working every day. I’ve been doing everything here alone, and that’s not how it was supposed to be. It’s supposed to be something fun for the both of us. I feel like a lot of people can’t say they own a clothing boutique with their best friend. (pause for response) How did this business go from something you dreamed about to something you hate? You’ve barely even given it enough time. (Pause for response) Of course I know it’s hard! I’ve been running the store by myself the past month! I ask for very little from you as it is, but now I’m gonna need at least some effort. I have put down a majority of savings to get this place up and running. I’m relying on the business for a liveable income. You don’t have that issue. (pause for response) I’m not holding that against you. I just think, at the minimum, you can dedicate your time to help out. (pause for response) What do you mean you don’t want to be a part of it anymore? (pause for response) But without you, I’m not going to be able to keep the boutique open. (pause for response) I don’t know if this is an irrational decision or not, but I want you to take more time to think about it. I have forgiven you for a lot of things that have happened in the past, but quitting our business, is something that I don’t think I’ll get over.
